#20

Wow!! Doesn't seem like it has been 20 weeks. On the whole, this has been quite the learning experience. The only thing I wish could have been different--some of the activities needed more "practice" time than one week. I did have problems with the online applications and tools, but perseverance paid off!!!
Pandora has become a favorite. Only thing if I am going to use it too much, I will need better speakers!!
Gaming is an old friend and finding favorite places on maps and geotagging is really fun.
I do think that I would really want to have my own computer, can't imagine depending on library public computers to work on some of these programs.

Gaming

I definitely did better at the adult games. I played super text twist and decided that I would quit when I lost. I couldn't loose, so had to quit anyway. I always enjoy playing bejeweled. I tried funbrain and primary games and struggled to win the game!!! I am really glad that those were for kids.

Tools

I worked with Zoho and Googledocs. I really think Googledocs would be the easiest and less information to go through to figures out what you really wanted. I guess I'm just a Google-Girl.

maps

Maps are always fun for me. I found every place I have lived and where some of my favorite friends and family live. But it is always fascinating to see the lay of the land and the streets. The street where I grew up actually goes the opposite direction than I thought it did!! I had much better luck finding directions here than in Mapquest.

Search Engines

I used the same search in each search engine. They were all equally helpful.

Podcasts

I know that this is big right now, but I found it rather tedius and a lot like Google--too much to plow through. I have always been within a week of doing my 20 for 2.0, and because of this one, I am 3 weeks behind.

Image Generators

I have worked on this and realize this will be so much fun. I want to become proficient, so that I can make cards. I am not timely at getting cards mailed, so being able to e-mail and purchase cards online will be very helpful to me.

Overdrive

Overdrive experience--What a great service for our patrons. And the selection covers all ages and all interests. I was particularly impressed with the choice of radio classics! My favorite authors were there, with a great selection of title available.

delicious

I really didn't find it that helpful. Every subject that I explored in delicious, wasn't what I wanted. I would think that this would be a help to patrons doing research, looking for personal experiences.

Wiki Woo

Wikis would be a great way to solve a problem, whether within your workgroup or within the whole system. It would also be a great way to plan a trip or a big function. Seems like it would save a lot of time and energy.

Libraries seem like a natural setting for Wikis, but how do we trust the information if anyone can sign in a change it?

youtube, etc

I checked out youtube at home over the weekend. Checked out the CSU girl's softball incident that happened. There were many entries. I found it to be a little like searching Google, too many choices and took too long to find just what I wanted.
Patrons are always asking questions about movies, especially who starred in a certain movie, do we have the DVD of a particular title, and what movies did ??? star in? Fancast and Hula will be a big help for those questions.

youtube, hulu, fancast

Who has time to watch and listen to all of this? If I had the time, I would have watched the tv shows in the first place!! I see plenty of youtube in my email from a cousin.

facebook

I decided to go to facebook, mainly because I really don't want a myspace account. First thing, not even searching for friends, my sister-in-law in Illinois' name came up as an on-line friend. A very nice and welcoming surprise.
At home this weekend, I was working with one of my Grandaughters, and we set up a myspace account for me!!!
I hope to use them, but when I can't even locate anyone else from my high school class with an account, I don't know how useful I will find it

RSS feeds

Da created 3 RSS feeds, one of which is the Seattle Mariners and the other is one of my hometown newspapers, which I will use at home.
We will be able to use this at work by adding our favorite websites we use for reference. This will keep us up to date with current information.

blogging from home

Just had to try this from home. I am watching "idolgivesback" and am very touched by the stories. Just wish they would let us know more often who the performers are. Poverty, aids, malaria--and just think of what the millions being spent by political candidates could do for all of these causes!!!
